Senate committee moves to criminalize necrophilia trendy blogger

Islamabad:

A Senate committee on Wednesday unanimously approved amendments to the Pakistan Penal Code to officially criminalize necrophilia. This comes after years of legal gap in this regard.

Necrophilia refers to being sexually attracted to or committing sexual assault against a dead body.

The Senate Standing Committee on Home Affairs, chaired by Senator Shahadat Awan, held a meeting at Parliament House, in the presence of Senators Irfan ul Haq Siddiqui and Samina Mumtaz Zehri, in addition to officials from various departments.

The committee unanimously approved the “Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2024” presented by Senator Zehri.

The bill highlights the disturbing incidents of necrophilia in Pakistan, noting that similar laws have already been implemented in other countries to criminalize such acts.

The amendment specifically revises Section 377 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which relates to “unnatural offences.”

The new bill now includes corpses, making necrophilia a crime punishable by life imprisonment.
