Islamabad: In light of the emerging regional security situation, the Petroleum Department directed all oil refineries in countries and marketing companies to promote production urgently and ensure the provision of the main petroleum products to support the operational readiness of the defense forces.
In “more urgent” directives dated April 23, 2025, the Ministry of Energy Petroleum Department instructed all main refineries-including Parco, PRL, NRL, Cnergyico and Attock Refinery Limited-to increase the production of high-speed diesel (HSD) and Jet (JP-8).
The guidance follows an increasing alert in the area, resulting from the accident in Bahajam – which is widely seen as a false science allegedly alleged India. This step reflects the pre -emptive measures of Pakistan to ensure the availability of fuel for the defense forces amid the increasing tensions.
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCS) has also been directed to ensure the import of petroleum products in time to maintain adequate levels of stocks. The guidance emphasizes the importance of operational readiness and urges immediate compliance.
“Given the emerging security situation in the region, all refineries are advised to enhance the production of HSD and JP-8 to meet the defense forces’ request,” and the official order issued by the General Manager (oil) Imran Ahmed.
DG Oil said: “OMCS is recommended to guarantee imports of petroleum products in a timely manner.”
In addition, the Petroleum Department asked all stakeholders to tighten security in the main oil infrastructure facilities according to the current standard operating procedures (SOPS).
The Oil and Gas Organization (OGRA) was also asked to remain aware and coordinate accordingly.
It should be noted that this development indicates a proactive response by the government to potential threats, which ensures fuel supplies without interruption of national security and critical infrastructure.
