Zoe Saldaña is open to working on a sequel to the comedy-drama “Crossroads” in which she starred alongside Britney Spears.
While playing a game diverseIn “Know Their Lines”, Saldana questioned whether or not she would reprise her role as the groupie from the 2002 film. She also shared some conditions she believes a hypothetical sequel should meet.
“Why not?” Saldaña said. “But I feel like it’s only going to work if Britney comes back and plays her character again. And Taryn Manning does that too, and Anson Mount. And for us to write realistic scripts for them. That would be lovely.”
Saldaña noted the rise in popularity of sequels over time and how “the last 20 years we’ve been living in the world of sequels.” “Normally, you would think that sequels were only for action movies or superhero movies, and now, sequels can exist in all kinds of genres,” she added.
“Crossroads” follows three childhood friends — Lucy (Spears), Kate (Saldaña), and Mimi (Taryn Manning) — who rediscover their friendship after eight years apart on a cross-country trip. Anson Mount, Kim Cattrall and Dan Aykroyd also star in the coming-of-age film.
“It was a lot of fun, but it was also my first time being around a major pop star,” Saldaña said of Spears, who makes her feature film debut in “Crossroads.” “She was very desirable, and yet, very humble, kind and friendly.”
She continued: “And I loved that the entire immediate production was made up of women. The producers, the director, the casting director, the actors – being in a world that’s only women gave me a nice little boost. I was like, ‘Oh, I want to be like this all the time.'”
