The unofficial and preliminary results of the by-election in National Assembly constituency NA-171 Rahim Yar Khan have been announced, with the PPP candidate winning.
According to media reports, Makhdoom Tahir Rashiduddin of the Pakistan Peoples Party received 116,429 votes. In contrast, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate, Hisan Mustafa, received 58,251 votes.
The election was expected to be a tight contest between Makhdoom Tahir Rashiduddin of the Pakistan People’s Party and Hassan Mustafa of the PTI, with four independent candidates also in the race.
A total of 301 polling stations were established in the electoral district, with security provided by 2,700 police personnel. Voting was conducted on Thursday from eight in the morning until five in the evening, without any breaks.
This seat fell vacant after the death of PTI’s National Assembly member Mumtaz Mustafa. The number of registered voters in the district is 526,973.
